MMA Academy replaces guesses with knowledge

MMA Academy isn't just about top class training. An equally important dimension in order to bring your fight game to the next level, is to help you to get a few facts right when it comes to vital areas such as injury treatment and your physical work-outs.

To remedy the mess of theories out there, we've put together a smaller serie of seminars covering these two topics, from which you can benefit greatly if you want to grow as a fighter. Our mission is to replace all guesses with true and tested knowledge, and helping us in this are true experts in their respective field.

Each seminar handles a specific area of importance in becoming a great fighter – and during previous camps the seminars have been tremendously well received as well as being very resourceful and inspiring. Previous camp participants really felt that the boost of knowledge from the series made them grow plenty as fighters.

"This has been one of the most intense, fun, and inspiring weeks for many years. So f***ng great! I haven't missed anything. Thanks."
Jonatan Vik, Frontline Muay Thai, Oslo

Seminar II: How to build a strong body for fighting – Omni4

How many times have you or your friends asked yourselves how to best build a strong body optimized for fighting? Should I build more muscles? What type of weight-lifting exercises should I do? Should I run more to increase my cardio? And how should all this be combined to build the perfect fighting machine that will last for several rounds of sparring or match-fighting?

Omni4 is the perfect source for answers to these type of questions. They are a new force in the world of personal trainers, that have done wonders with a great deal of Sweden's pro fighters in styles such as MMA, muay thai, jujutsu, judo and boxing – among them Magnus Cedenblad and Papy Abedi, both known for their monster physique. The people behind Omni4 are themselves former elite athletes, and they all have extensive academic backgrounds in sports medicine. Therefore, they are able to bring a scientific approach to how the body works – replacing guesses with facts.

A normal situation down at Omni4 is that they meet a fighter with impressive strength in the larger muscles and also superb cardio. However, the balance in the muscular structure is often weak, still making them go tired after just a few minutes of fighting and thereby not allowing the fighter to get the most out of his or her physical potential.

To help you understand how you should think about your physical build-up when you get home from the camp, each week will end with a short seminar with Omni4 talking on the subject. This session is then followed by a final physical blast out where we all will get to try Omni4s philosophy for real, combining different physical aspects such as endurance, functional flexibility and strength. A nice prize is hereby promised to the winner!

Seminar I: Basic injury treatment for martial arts – Kalle Engström

Have you ever gotten injured when working out, with the consequence of you missing weeks of practice? Wouldn't it be better if you had known how to treat that damn injury to reduce the recovery time from weeks to a few days only? That's right, this is all possible and no mumbojumbo at all.

This seminar is a favourite from previous camps with what might be the most valuable information you will learn all year. Kalle Engström gives us concrete advices on basic injury treatment and how to best take care of and treat potential injuries right when they happen. Did you know recovery time can be reduced with up to several months if you treat the injury in the right way quickly? With quickly, we mean within seconds or minutes, not after an hour or two when you have gotten home from practice. To be successful in any sport it is therefore highly helpful and valuable to know a thing or two about basic injury treatment. Kalle Engström himself has not only years of experience from martial arts injuries as a coach for the Norwegian national judo team, but also an academic degree in sport medicin – all in all making him highly suitable to run this seminar.

The seminar will show you how to treat basic injuries such as a charley horse (lårkaka in Swedish), sprained ankles or wrists, twisted shoulders – how to wrap, bandage and tape different body parts (eg fingers, feet, wrists) to minimize healing time and thereby reduce your time away from your training.

Due to its high immportance to all fighters, this seminar will be held both camp weeks. During the MMA Camp Week Kalle Engström will focus on MMA-related injuries, and during the Muay Thai & MMA Striking Camp Week focus will be on classical stand up fighting injuries.
